The house is designed to offer a contemporary character by using corten steel, both externally as cladding and internally as an accent finish, ensuring and continuation of the living spaces into the garden. The front of the house is retained almost as existing with only a few alterations to hint to the contemporary extension at the back. This is done to maintain the street character. In terms of layout, a direct route is designed to front the front door to the rear extension as a circulation backbone of the entire house. Flexible, interconnected living spaces can be accessed off this circulation with the kitchen as a central hub for the house. By using a system of large sliding doors the kitchen can be both opened and enclosed becoming both an entertainment space and also an effective cooking machinery.
